2 years ago By Sports Desk

In a dramatic and rain-soaked final practice session for the Dutch Grand Prix, Max Verstappen emerged as the fastest driver, outpacing George Russell by a significant margin. The Zandvoort circuit witnessed an intense battle for supremacy as the drivers grappled with treacherous conditions and changing track dynamics.

As the session unfolded, it became evident that the track conditions were far from ideal, with intermittent rain causing disruptions and leading to several red flags. However, the final 20 minutes of FP3 saw a surge in activity as the rain subsided, allowing drivers to venture onto the track with intermediate tires.

THE SESSION

Amidst the challenges posed by the wet track, Max Verstappen showcased his prowess, consistently displaying his command over the conditions. The Red Bull driver clocked a blistering time of 1m21.631s, setting the benchmark for the rest of the field. His performance was a testament to his adaptability and skill, cementing his status as a formidable force on home soil.

CHASING EACH OTHER

Chasing Verstappen’s time was George Russell, piloting a Mercedes, who managed to secure the second-fastest time. Russell’s determined effort kept him within reach of the Dutch driver. With a gap of just 0.379 seconds separating the two at the end of the session. Despite the challenging weather, Russell’s performance underscored his ability to contend for a competitive position.

Williams continued to demonstrate their strong form at Zandvoort, as Alex Albon secured the sixth-fastest time in the session. McLaren’s Oscar Piastri was the fastest of the McLaren drivers, landing in seventh, while his teammate Lando Norris secured the tenth spot in the timesheets.

Valtteri Bottas, driving for Alfa Romeo, and Charles Leclerc’s Ferrari occupied the spaces between the McLaren drivers, adding to the diversity of teams in the top ten.

SESSION OF UNPRECEDENTED NATURE

It was a session marked by unpredictability, with several red flags caused by incidents involving Kevin Magnussen, Zhou Guanyu, and debutant Liam Lawson. Despite the challenges posed by the wet track and changing conditions, the drivers showcased their determination to push their limits and adapt to the circumstances.

As the Dutch Grand Prix continues to unfold, the wet FP3 session has set the stage for a thrilling battle on the iconic Zandvoort circuit. With Verstappen and Russell leading the pack, the stage is set for an intense qualifying session and a race that promises to keep fans on the edge of their seats.
