Appointment as Mercedes-AMG Petronas F1 Reserve Driver

Mercedes-AMG Petronas Formula One Team named De Vries as their reserve driver for the 2020 Formula One season, recognizing his potential and good results. De Vries was able to gain significant knowledge of the F1 environment while also working closely with the team in this role.

Team Selection for the 2023 F1 Season

Following his achievements in Formula 2 and Formula E, Nyck de Vries has been chosen by the Scuderia Alpha Tauri Formula 1 team to compete in the 2023 season. But the 28-year-old had endured a difficult rookie season in the sport and was subsequently replaced by Daniel Ricciardo for the remainder of the year by Alpha Tauri after the British Grand Prix this July.The Australian moved from his role as Red Bull’s reserve driver and was essentially sent ‘on loan’ to AlphaTauri to step in for De Vries for the remainder of the season with immediate effect.
