Davidson predicts Carlos Sainz to lead Audi F1 team in 2026 after Lewis leaves Ferrari for Hamilton

There has been intense speculation about Carlos Sainz’s future in Formula 1 in recent months, especially after Audi’s victory in the Dakar Rally and his departure from Ferrari. There are now strong indications that Sainz could lead Audi’s entry into F1 when the new regulations come into effect in 2026.

Former BAR-Honda and Super Aguri driver Anthony Davidson, in recent comments while reporting on F1 pre-season testing in Bahrain, expressed his belief that Audi is the ideal destination for Sainz. Davidson highlighted Sainz’s professionalism and ability in mixed conditions, stressing that the Spaniard would be a valuable addition to the Swiss team.

“Ferrari were the only team besides Red Bull to win a race last year and Carlos was the driver to win that,” noted Davidson. “He’s extremely professional, he’s always there, he’s a tough driver. I think he’s very good in mixed conditions.”

Responding to rumors of Sainz’s possible move to Audi, Davidson expressed his belief that such a move is very likely. “I suppose he will. I think it’s a very good place for an experienced professional driver like him to lead a new team,” Davidson said.

Audi, which is taking over the Sauber team, appears to be counting on Sainz’s experience and leadership to strengthen its presence in F1. Davidson emphasized Sainz’s ability to lead a new team, particularly given the possibility of internal changes to Sauber’s structure.

“Of course it’s still Sauber, but there will be new people in the team who want to make their mark in Formula 1 and I think he will be a good driver to help guide and measure ambition – maybe even too much optimism . times,” commented Davidson.

The news of Sainz’s possible switch to Audi has certainly piqued the interest of F1 fans, who are now eagerly waiting to see if this prediction comes true. With Sainz’s success at Ferrari and his leading role in the Dakar Rally, leading the Audi team could be an exciting new phase in his Formula 1 career.

As the F1 season approaches, Carlos Sainz’s moves and role at Audi in 2026.
