“Ricciardo Stays Put: Helmut Marko Denies Mercedes Move – ‘He’s Not Leaving'”

1 years ago By Sports Desk

After it was announced that Lewis Hamilton would leave Mercedes to join Ferrari in 2025, rumors began to circulate as to who would replace the seven-time world champion.

However, according to Helmut Marko, the name that was once mooted as a possible successor to Hamilton can now be crossed off the list. The star is Daniel Ricciardo, the ever-smiling Aussie currently driving for the RB team for the Visa Cash App. Although a British newspaper suggested him as the leading candidate for the vacant position, Red Bull consultant Helmut Marko dismissed the idea.

Contrary to speculation, Marco claims Ricciardo is unlikely to leave the team to join Mercedes. Why? Existing contractual obligations: “Ricciardo still has a long-term contract but it cannot be offered,” the Austrian told F1-insider.com. The position has raised eyebrows as Ricciardo’s contract, like many other drivers, is set to expire after the 2024 season. This raises the possibility of behind-the-scenes talks over a potential move to Red Bull Racing or a non-renewal of the contract.

News of Hamilton’s move to Ferrari shocked the Formula One world, with Mercedes now looking for a replacement. Names such as Carlos Sainz, Esteban Ocon, Fernando Alonso, Mick Schumacher and even a possible comeback Sebastian Vettel have been mentioned as possible candidates.

Even Mercedes’ young talent Andrea Kimi Antonelli is said to be ready to take over management of the German team.Daniel Ricciardo, currently contracted by Red Bull, has barely been mentioned in the speculation. While Mercedes has naturally been contacted about the possibility of replacing Hamilton in 2025, Helmut Marco ruled out any imminent move, citing Ricciardo’s commitment to the Austrian outfit.Unless Mercedes quickly announces Hamilton’s replacement, the situation for the 2024 season promises to be one of the longest “silly seasons” yet.

It remains to be seen how Germany will make this crucial decision next month. The driver market is rife with anticipation and speculation, so choosing Hamilton’s replacement is one of the highlights of the season.
