Ex-F1 Champion Jenson Button Makes Unexpected Racing Comeback

The former Formula 1 champion driver, the British star Jenson Button, is all set to make a full-time return to competitive racing in 2024. After his retirement from the F1 arena in 2017, Button hadn’t entirely left the motorsports arena; he continued his career in the Super GT500 Championship series as well as in NASCAR. But it is time for him again to join the elite performance level of motorsports.

The British driver won his only F1 championship in 2009 with the Brawn GP F1 team. In his F1 career, which spanned over a wonderful 17 years from 2000 to 2017, he has started a staggering 306 races; out of those, he has earned 50 podiums, 15 race wins, and 8 pole positions. He has also raced for Brawn,Williams, Benetton, Renault, BAR, Honda, and McLaren.

Since leaving Formula 1 in 2017, he has not competed in many competitive races. From 2017 to 2023, his notable achievement during this period was winning the Super GT series with Team Kunimitsu in 2018.

But now, the 43-year-old driver is set to complete another full season, as he will be racing a Jota Porsche 963 in the World Endurance Championship. Button is set to race in the world’s top hypercar category, which includes the famous Le Mans 24 Hours race.

“I continue to be at the top of my game. Button told the BBC, “I have a pass from my wife. The machinery is more technologically advanced than F1 cars.”

“The technology in Formula One cars is unparalleled, representing the highest level of aerodynamic design, and these teams are among the best globally. However, their technological prowess pales in comparison to that of hypercars.

He expressed his excitement about joining the Jota Hertz team and riding with drivers Oliver Rasmussen and Phil Hanson in an Instagram post confirming his announcement of joining the Le Mans with Hertz.

Le Mans is regarded as the greatest endurance motorsport race series in the world. Many great motorsport as well as F1 racers have raced in Le Mans before and gained success. Button will also get the opportunity to compete in some of the most renowned endurance races in racing, such as the 24 Hours of Le Mans, and visit some of the locations where he competed in Formula One, including Imola, Spa, Interlagos, Austin, Fuji, and Sakhir.

Given the vast amount of knowledge that exists about both hypercars and endurance racing, the 43-year-old driver will undoubtedly feel more at ease operating a vehicle among the top two endurance racers, allowing him to display his exceptional abilities and expertise.
