Zhou Looks “Very Close” To Renewing With Alfa Romeo For F1 2024

2 years ago By Sports Desk

In the fast-paced world of Formula 1, the future of drivers and teams can often be as uncertain as the outcome of a race. However, for Chinese racing sensation Guanyu Zhou, it seems that the path ahead is becoming increasingly clear. Zhou, who currently drives for Alfa Romeo Racing, has indicated that he is on the brink of renewing his contract with the team for the 2024 Formula 1 season.

Zhou’s Journey

Zhou’s journey in Formula 1 has been nothing short of remarkable. Born on May 30, 1999, in Shanghai, China, he began his racing career at a young age and quickly climbed the motorsport ladder. After impressive performances in various junior categories, Zhou earned his place as a development driver for the Renault (now Alpine) F1 team in 2019.

In F1

In 2021, Zhou’s talent and hard work paid off when he joined Alfa Romeo Racing (formerly known as Sauber) as their reserve driver. He made his official Formula 1 debut during the 2022 season, becoming the first-ever Chinese driver to compete in the pinnacle of motorsport.

Throughout his time with Alfa Romeo Racing, Zhou has showcased his potential and adaptability, earning respect from both his team and fellow competitors. The 2023 season has seen him gain valuable experience, and his performances have garnered attention from Formula 1 enthusiasts worldwide.

Facing Challenges

Despite the occasional challenges and uncertainties that come with being a young driver in a competitive field, Zhou has remained focused on his goal of securing a long-term future in Formula 1. His determination has been evident in his recent statement about the contract renewal.

“It’s a little bit [more] delayed than I expected, but I think it’s just due to these more details under the contract and me, together with Alfa Romeo, trying to figure out how to get all these final details,” Zhou stated. “But yeah, for my side, I think nothing changed. I just try to keep doing the best I can on track, and then the rest I leave to them.”

Optimum Optimism

Zhou’s optimism shines through as he emphasizes the bright future he sees for Alfa Romeo Racing. The prospect of him continuing with the team is not only exciting for him but also for Formula 1 fans around the world.

One particular point of interest is the potential return of the Chinese Grand Prix in 2024. If Zhou renews his contract with Alfa Romeo, there’s a possibility that he could compete in his home event, which would undoubtedly be a significant moment in his career and a momentous occasion for Chinese motorsport enthusiasts.

As Zhou aptly puts it, “Nothing is sure until I sign the contract, so obviously, nothing has been decided. But we’re getting very close to that point, and there’s definitely been heading, let’s say, a lot further than just finishing the summer break because, obviously, during summer break, there’s a shutdown. Everybody, including myself, wasn’t looking at my phone. But in general, I think now is the time that everything just needs to be put into place in the next few weeks.”

Wait For Confirmation

For now, the Formula 1 world awaits the official announcement, but the signs point towards Zhou extending his journey with Alfa Romeo Racing. If the renewal goes through, it will not only solidify Zhou’s place in the sport but also open a new chapter in the exciting tale of Chinese representation in Formula 1.

Zhou’s persistence and talent have brought him to the brink of a significant milestone in his career. The prospect of seeing him continue to compete at the highest level of motorsport is undoubtedly an exciting one, and fans eagerly anticipate the official confirmation of his renewal with Alfa Romeo Racing for the 2024 Formula 1 season. As the season unfolds and negotiations progress, the world of Formula 1 will keep a close eye on the promising young talent from China, Guanyu Zhou, and the team that could be his home for years to come.
