Simon Pagenaud Updates Health and Racing Return Status for 2024

5 months ago By Walter Thompson

French driver Simon Pagenaud has had a tough 2023 after a serious crash during a practice session at Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course in July. He has not raced in any events since, leaving Meyer Shank Racing without a driver for the final nine rounds of the 17-race IndyCar season.

Pagenaud, the 2019 Indianapolis 500 champion and 2016 champion, focused on recovery during his time away from the tracks. In a video uploaded to his personal website, the 39-year-old pilot shared details about his health condition and possible return to racing in 2024.

The video expressed Pagenaud’s gratitude for the overwhelming wave of support he has received over the past four months and offered an honest perspective on his physical health. “I’m making significant progress, but unfortunately the injuries aren’t visible on the outside. I feel really good physically, but on the inside, it’s frustrating injuries in the sense that you don’t see the healing,” Pagenaud said. He emphasized that time is important in the recovery process and pointed out the need for patience and intensive rehabilitation.

The driver displayed an optimistic attitude, stating that he was getting stronger day by day during his recovery process. However, Pagenaud stated that he does not yet know whether he will get behind the wheel again in 2024. He emphasised the importance of handling his recovery carefully, emphasizing that he wants to be in the best shape when he returns.

While working on his next steps, Pagenaud also took the opportunity to reflect on his career and expressed his intention to share his past achievements and special memories with his fans. The driver emphasized that this process is not the end and better times will come.

During Pagenaud’s absence, Meyer Shank Racing turned to reserve drivers such as Conor Daly, Tom Blomqvist and Linus Lundqvist. Blomqvist is currently the team’s Honda No. He serves as the full-time driver of 60 vehicles.

We are looking forward to the developments regarding Simon Pagenaud’s recovery process and his possible return to racing in 2024. We hope for a continued recovery for the driver and to see him back in full form on the tracks soon.
