Pedro Acosta: “Missed Racing” and Eyeing Marc Marquez’s Record

3 days ago By Walter Thompson

Pedro Acosta is just two races away from becoming the youngest winner of a race in the premier MotoGP category, a record currently held by Marc Márquez. The Spanish rider will have the chance to make history this weekend at the Dutch MotoGP in Assen and the following week at Sachsenring.

After a break of a few weeks, Acosta is eager to get back into action. “Finally, we have competition again! These breaks are good to disconnect and train a lot, but I miss racing a lot, so I’m looking forward to Assen,” said Acosta. He added that he has been training intensely to prepare for these two races before the summer break.

Assen, known as the “Cathedral” of motorcycling, is a circuit that Acosta greatly appreciates. “Assen is a circuit that I like, with a beautiful track and a spectacular atmosphere. We will see how we feel on Friday and how the weekend evolves. Little by little, we are adapting more and more to the bike, which is noticeable in the consistency, especially on Saturdays. We are really looking forward to racing at the cathedral.”

This season, Acosta has shown promising speed, especially in Le Mans and Catalunya, where he was close to victory. However, both races ended in crashes, preventing him from realising his potential. Despite these setbacks, Acosta’s confidence has not waned, and he is determined to give his best in the upcoming races.

While Acosta fights for glory, his compatriot, Augusto Fernandez, faces an uncertain future. Having lost his seat at Tech 3 KTM for 2025, Fernandez’s chances of staying in MotoGP are slim. Despite a season below expectations, Fernandez is eager for the race at Assen, one of his favourite circuits.

“After three weeks, I am happy to finally get back on the MotoGP bike and go racing. This time off was good to disconnect a bit while training and preparing as much as we could for these two races before the summer break, which will be important. We start with the Netherlands at TT Assen, one of my favourite tracks on the calendar. Our performance in 2023 was not bad, so let’s see what we can do this week,” said Fernandez.

With the spotlight on Pedro Acosta, the young rider has a golden opportunity to make his name in MotoGP history. If he manages to stay on track and avoid crashes, Márquez’s record could be broken. Motorcycle racing fans around the world will certainly be watching, waiting to see if Acosta can realise his potential and achieve the long-awaited victory.
