Mercedes Urged to Recruit Max Verstappen as Lewis Hamilton Faces ‘Problem’ – F1 Update

1 years ago By Sports Desk

The world of Formula 1 is full of speculation and twists, the latest being the possibility of Max Verstappen joining the Mercedes team to replace Lewis Hamilton. Team boss Toto Wolff did not rule out the possibility, underlining Mercedes’ commitment to finding the best driver combination.

The news comes after it was confirmed that Lewis Hamilton will complete his final season with Mercedes in 2024 before joining the iconic Ferrari team from 2025. This raises the question: Who will fill Hamilton’s vacancy in the German team?

When asked about the possibility of choosing Max Verstappen, Wolff did not close the door, stressing that they are always looking for the best combination for the car. He added that the situation can change quickly and the team is open to unexpected options.

Negotiations between Mercedes and Red Bull to secure Verstappen’s signature were intense early in F1, with Red Bull emerging victorious in the dispute. However, Wolff clarified that “the ball is in our court” and the team could consider keeping Verstappen on his current deal until the end of 2028.

Removing Verstappen from the Red Bull team will be a significant challenge, especially considering his excellent form, which has seen him win his third consecutive title and make it 19 titles. Wolf admitted to honoring the existing contract, but stressed that drivers always want to be in the fastest car.

Hamilton’s shock move to Ferrari has highlighted the unpredictability of the F1 driver market and Wolff has made it clear he won’t be dropping anyone anytime soon. This opened the door to speculation over the possibility of current three-time world champion Verstappen joining.

With time on their side this time, unlike the situation with Nico Rosberg’s retirement in 2016, Mercedes have had the opportunity to carefully assess their options before deciding on Hamilton’s successor. The team is not only determined to build the fastest car in the short and medium term, but also lay the foundation for future opportunities in the long term.

As the F1 season approaches, fans are eager to see how the driver market will evolve and whether Max Verstappen will indeed be Mercedes’ next big signing. The show has just started and the twists promise to keep Formula One fans in suspense.
