Ford Responds to Red Bull’s Internal Probe on Christian Horner

11 months ago By Sports Desk

Ford, the future engine partner of Formula 1 team Red Bull, has reacted strongly to the ongoing internal investigation into team principal Christian Horner, who has been accused of “inappropriate behaviour”. In a personal letter to the team owner, the automaker called on Red Bull to be “transparent” in its handling of the allegations and stressed the importance of seriousness and speed in conducting investigations.

Red Bull launched an investigation into Horner this month after allegations of personal abuse emerged. Horner, who led the team to multiple league titles over two decades, vehemently denied the allegations. The investigation is being led by an outside specialist lawyer, and Horner has not indicated that he will temporarily resign during the trial.

Ford’s letter emphasizes that the company expects the “highest standards of conduct and integrity” from its partners and makes it clear that the company expects the investigation to be taken seriously and completed in a timely manner. Ford and Red Bull plan to collaborate on Ford’s entry into Formula One from the 2026 season, including collaboration on battery projects and other joint ventures.

The letter also highlights that Ford has the option to terminate the partnership if it deems it necessary, underscoring how seriously the company takes the allegations against the Red Bull Racing boss. As part of the partnership, Ford will supply hybrid systems and other technical equipment to Red Bull’s cars, while the team will share its aerodynamic expertise.

In light of the allegations, Horner is confident that he can clear his name and stressed that he is focused on the future of the team. He made his first public appearance in the 2024 season since the investigation began, maintaining a business-as-usual position for the team as it looks to achieve greater success in the season that begins in March.

Red Bull star driver Max Verstappen also commented on the situation, saying his relationship with Horner remained “very good” despite the ongoing investigation. Lewis Hamilton has described his move to Ferrari as “awkward” due to the timing, but stressed he must move on if it is Hamilton’s dream.

Horner’s investigation examines the complexities of the internal dynamics of the Formula 1 team and future partnerships. Ford’s clarification and position on the situation highlights the importance of high ethical and behavioral standards in elite motorsports.

As the season approaches, attention turns not only to the race track, but also behind the scenes, where issues of leadership and ethics can affect not only the team’s performance, but also the reputation of Formula 1 as a whole.
