Ex-Mercedes Head Confirms Schumacher Excluded from F1 Garage

1 years ago By Sports Desk

Nick Fry, former CEO of Mercedes and team president of Honda in the mid-2000s, shared emotional details about his relationship with the Schumacher family. In a surprising revelation, Fry revealed that Mick Schumacher was not allowed into the Formula 1 team garage by his own parents, namely when Michael Schumacher was racing.

Mick, who is currently a reserve driver for Mercedes and will race in the World Endurance Championship with Alpine this season, had loving parents who wanted to keep him away from the public eye while he could watch his father race.

While making statements about his personal connection with the Schumacher family, Fry shared his insights on the protection of Mick, who also competes in F1 with the Haas team in 2021 and 2022.

“I think Michael’s homestay provides some of my dearest memories, like our kids playing together,” Fry said, quoting OLBG. “I also remember carefully how Michael and Corinna protected their child. It was always cute that Mick, then a teenager, was not allowed into the garage, but he would stand behind his father’s car and look at it.”

Schumacher’s efforts to protect the family from public view are highlighted in Fry’s remarks, while Mick’s ban from the garage is highlighted as a poignant example of this parental caution.

Regarding Mick Schumacher’s current situation, Fry expresses disappointment that Mick has not secured a full-time seat on the F1 grid for the 2023 season. However, the 24-year-old has secured a reserve driver role with Mercedes, where his father once raced.

In 2024, the young pilot signed an agreement with Alpine to compete in the World Endurance Championship. Fortunately, his contract allows him to maintain his role as a reserve driver for Mercedes in Formula 1.

Fry’s words reveal not only the complexity of the Schumacher legacy in Formula 1, but also Mick’s resilience in balancing his new journey at Alpine with his duties at Mercedes.

This unique episode reveals not only the challenges of the Schumacher family on the Formula 1 scene, but also the power of this family in the automotive world. Parental love and passion for racing continue to shape the Schumachers’ Formula 1 narrative.
