The 2024 MotoGP season has officially begun with testing at the Losail International Circuit in Qatar. The first test day brought intensity and anticipation to the fans, and the time trial was led by Peko Bagnaia.
Bagnaia, who has already stood at the Sepang test, continued his impressive form, leading with a time of 1:52.040. The Ducati rider seems determined to start the season on the right foot and build on his past success.
As darkness fell and track conditions improved, other competitors were able to improve their times, promising intense competition in the coming season. Ducati’s former champion Jorge Martin was second, with Aprilia’s Aleix Espargaro third.
In the top ten, we saw familiar names and some surprises. Brad Binder (KTM), Fabio Di Gianantonio (Ducati) and Maverick Vinales (Aprilia) were fourth and sixth respectively. The top ten group was completed by Alex Marquez (Ducati), Ennia Bastianini (Ducati), Johann Zarco (Honda) and Fabio Quartarro (Yamaha).
On the test day, the Repsol Honda team also entered the scene with Joan Miri and Luca Marin. Looking to tune his Honda RC213V, Mir showed a competitive edge and finished thirteenth. At 18 Luca Marini continued to adapt to the new engine, focusing on continuous improvement.
Joan Mir shared her impressions: “In general, the first day of testing was good and we were able to confirm the discoveries already made in Sepang. We tried some more things in the aerodynamic part and had another success, which makes us happy.”
Luca Marini expressed his determination: “Unfortunately I’m not feeling 100% today, which is a shame, but we still did what we had to do. The first day today was much better than the first day in Sepang, so it shows that we started Well done Sepang and we will continue here.”
The results from the first day of testing set an exciting foundation for the 2024 MotoGP season. As the competition heats up, fans can expect more action and twists and turns in the Test days ahead, setting the stage for a truly electrifying season.
