Benjamin Pedersen Gets Replaced By Sting Ray Robb at AJ Foyt Racing IndyCar Team
In the recent turn of events in the Indycar world, AJ FOYT Racing has announced the departure of Benjamin Pedersen, who is replaced by Sting Ray Robb.
AJ FOYT, the American team in INDYCAR, parted ways with Pedersen after his poor performances.
The news came in with a bit of surprise for the fans as the promising young Pedersen was crowned the rookie of the year in his first Indianapolis 500.
Pedersen finished his first rookie season in the Indycar series in 27th place with AJ Foyt Racing.
Meanwhile, Sting Ray Robb, another rookie, finished 23rd in the NTT IndyCar Series standings with Coyne and Honda Power.
Sting Ray Robb, 22, is an Indy Pro 2000 Champion in 2020 with seven race wins, five poles, 11 podium finishes, and an Indy Lights runner-up during the 2022 season. When asked about how he was feeling right now in a press conference, he said, “It feels like a dream come true for me, and “I’m truly honored to pilot the No. 41 AJ Foyt Racing Chevrolet for the ‘24 season.”.
His chance appears to have come at the expense of Pedersen, who signed a multi-year contract last offseason to drive Foyt’s No. 55 Chevy out of the team’s Speedway facility. Pedersen has a substantial budget of his own. At the September finale, where this rookie driver recorded his second-best finish of the year (16th), team president Larry Foyt responded to mounting rumors that the team might be looking to replace Pedersen after just one season, saying he “didn’t foresee any big changes in the driver area” looking ahead to the following season.
As for the 24-year-old Pedersen, the future of his very young motorsport career remains unclear. Although a really serious talent, still going out of the team that trusted him the most will surely affect his mental health.
After signing a multi-year contract with AJ FOYT Racing in 2023, the young driver certainly didn’t expect to be left out by the team.
