Di Giannantonio on German MotoGP DNF: ‘Continuing Was Too Dangerous’

2 months ago By Walter Thompson

Fabio di Giannantonio experienced a premature end in the 2024 German MotoGP Grand Prix, where he had to retire due to technical issues with his bike.

The Italian rider, starting from twelfth on the grid, had to return to the pits on the ninth lap due to a sudden loss of rear tire pressure, accompanied by an alarm on his dashboard. In statements after the race, di Giannantonio explained that the problem made it too dangerous to continue on the track. “I lost pressure and also received an alert on the dashboard, and it was really dangerous to continue,” affirmed the rider. He regretted ending the first part of the season this way but emphasized that the balance up to now had been positive.

The Italian rider also mentioned that despite an imperfect start in the race, he managed to stay in touch with the leading group. However, a sudden loss of grip compromised his chances of finishing the race competitively.

Di Giannantonio also highlighted the progress made in treating his shoulder, affected by a significant accident during free practice. He praised the work done by the physiotherapist, who helped him feel better for the race. Currently eighth in the world standings and the second-best rider using the GP23 bike, di Giannantonio is considered a key figure in the VR46 team.

There is strong speculation that he will remain with the team next season, possibly with an upgrade to factory-spec machinery, in recognition of his consistent performances and skills on the track.

As the MotoGP season progresses, di Giannantonio is determined to maintain his competitiveness and overcome challenges like the one faced in Germany. His decision not to risk his safety by continuing the race shows his commitment to coming back stronger in the upcoming stages of the championship.

The MotoGP community now awaits to see how di Giannantonio will recover from this adversity and what his next steps will be to consolidate his position in the elite of world motorcycling.
