Hamilton Reflects on Verstappen and Abu Dhabi Controversy

1 years ago By Sports Desk

Seven-time Formula 1 world champion Lewis Hamilton recently shared his thoughts on the controversial 2021 Abu Dhabi race, where he saw his title slip away from Max Verstappen in the final moments. In an interview with GQ magazine, Hamilton approached the subject with a mixture of calm and determination, revealing his feelings and thoughts about that controversial event.

The race in Abu Dhabi, which concluded the 2021 Formula 1 season, was marked by a series of dramatic events, culminating in Verstappen’s last-ditch pass from Hamilton on the final lap. Hamilton, who had led for most of the race, expressed his frustration during the race, later describing the result as “bruised” over team radio.

When asked if he felt he was “robbed” of an eighth title, Hamilton acknowledged the situation, but also emphasized the positive aspect of his father Anthony Hamilton’s presence in the pits during that difficult time. He emphasized the importance of his father’s emotional support and how it helped him cope with adversity.

In addition, Hamilton shared his thoughts on greeting Verstappen after the race, explaining that he was aware of the impact of his actions and the message it would send to spectators, especially children who look up to him. He described the moment as “defining” in his life and expressed gratitude for the opportunity to learn and grow from this challenging experience.

When asked if he still thinks about the result of that night in Abu Dhabi, Hamilton admitted that he still feels the emotions, but emphasized that he is “at peace” with what happened. This attitude reflects the maturity and resilience of the pilot, who chose to focus on the present and the future, instead of being stuck in the past.

The controversy in Abu Dhabi served as a powerful reminder of the highs and lows of top-level sport, as well as the importance of facing adversity with dignity and determination. One of the most successful drivers in Formula 1 history, Hamilton continues to inspire fans around the world with his skill on the track and his positive attitude in the face of challenges.

As the 2022 Formula 1 season approaches, fans are eagerly waiting to see Hamilton and Verstappen once again compete for the title in an exciting on-track battle. Regardless of the outcome, Hamilton has already proven himself to be a true champion on and off the track, and has left a lasting legacy in the world of motorsport.
