BMW in Talks with Dorna: MotoGP Entry Rumors Heat Up

1 years ago By Sports Desk

Rumors about BMW’s possible entry into MotoGP are heating up after the giant manufacturer’s boss, Markus Flasch of BMW Motorrad, sent another comment.

Following Toprak Razgatlioglu’s first WorldSBK victory for BMW since returning to Barcelona as a factory team, Flasch commented on the possible future of MotoGP, highlighting that 2027 is an ideal time for the brand to enter the competition.

The BMW Motorrad boss has highlighted the importance of the new regulations coming into force in 2027 and suggests that this could be the perfect time for BMW to enter MotoGP. Since the opportunity to start over creates a level playing field for all manufacturers, Flasch believes it’s time for an upstart to be competitive from the start.

Furthermore, Flasch revealed that BMW is in contact with Dorna, the organizer of MotoGP, and is negotiating the rules of the category. He pointed out that this phase is part of the company’s assessment of a possible entry into MotoGP, but emphasized that it does not put pressure on BMW to make an immediate decision.

Speculation over BMW’s entry into MotoGP has continued to rise as all manufacturers could start again in 2027. This regulatory change could level the playing field and offer a unique opportunity for an upstart like BMW to compete head-to-head with established manufacturers in the segment. .

Despite earlier speculation that BMW was unwilling to replace Suzuki in MotoGP, Flasch’s comments hint at a possible rethink by the company. He emphasized that the key to the decision is to convince people of the idea, and a thorough strategic analysis is needed.

Flasch also mentioned BMW’s consideration of entering MotoGP, including the importance of the brand and the global reach of the category, as well as the possibility of technology transfer. However, he stressed that his personal passion for MotoGP was not the only factor behind BMW’s consideration.

As BMW considers its entry into MotoGP, fans are anxiously awaiting further developments that could shed light on the brand’s future in the competition. Due to Dorna and BMW’s renewed interest in the category, the MotoGP scene may welcome an exciting new event in the near future.
