Carlos Sainz wins the Australian GP after Verstappen’s retirement.

Ferrari’s Carlos Sainz won the Formula 1 Australian Grand Prix on Sunday after Red Bull’s Max Verstappen retired.

The race started with high hopes, with Verstappen starting on pole for the third time this season. However, fate had other plans for the Dutch driver, who was forced to stop on lap four due to brake problems after his car burst into flames at the back. It was Verstappen’s first retirement in two years, ending a remarkable run of nine consecutive victories.

With Verstappen out, Carlos Sainz took the lead and never looked back. The Spanish driver, who had previously missed out on appendicitis surgery in Saudi Arabia, showed determination and skill to take his place at the front of the field.

Sainz is not the only player in the fight for victory, as his Ferrari teammate Charles Leclerc is also fighting for first place. However, Sainz kept his composure and managed to maintain the lead until the checkered flag, ensuring a great one-two finish for the Italian team.

It was a challenging day for the other drivers, with Mercedes’ Lewis Hamilton having to retire early after starting from 11th with engine trouble. His team-mate George Russell was also in trouble, dramatically ending his race when he crashed into the barrier after exiting turn six.

Meanwhile, Red Bull’s Sergio Perez could finish fifth, while Aston Martin’s Fernando Alonso started the race in 10th. However, the race jury called Alonso to investigate Russell’s crash.

Sainz’s win not only ended Red Bull’s momentum but also showcased the Spanish driver’s consistency and skill. After the race, Sainz expressed his delight and pride for the team, stressing the importance of winning on Australian soil.

With the Formula 1 season currently underway, fans can’t wait to see if Ferrari can maintain their momentum and challenge the supremacy of Red Bull and Mercedes. One thing is for sure the 2024 Australian Grand Prix will be remembered as a race full of thrills and unexpected twists and turns.
