Alex Lowes Reflects on WorldSBK Performances, Acknowledging Insufficient Merit for MotoGP Opportunity

1 years ago By Sports Desk

WorldSBK championship leader Alex Lowes has voiced his opinion on his performance in class after the first round at Phillip Island, acknowledging that his results at WorldSBK are not enough to earn him a chance at MotoGP.

After impressive victories in Superpole and Race 2 at Phillip Island, Lowes took the championship lead against newcomer Nicolo Bulega. However, despite his success at WorldSBK, Lowes said he was not given a real chance to show his skills in MotoGP, as was the case with his former teammate and six-time Superbike champion Jonathan Rea.

Lowes had the opportunity to compete in two MotoGP races in 2016 and made his debut in the category. But after that season he admitted his WorldSBK results weren’t good enough to return to full-time Grand Prix racing. He realized that competing at the top level of MotoGP requires consistent and exceptional performances, which he consistently failed to do.

In an interview with the OMG MotoGP Podcast, Lowes shared his MotoGP experience and his thoughts on the WorldSBK journey. They emphasized the complexity of the racing world and how many things must align to achieve success, including the right equipment, the right team and driver confidence.

Despite not getting a full-time opportunity in MotoGP, Lowes never gave up his passion for the sport and continued to seek success at WorldSBK. Now leading the championship with the Kawasaki team, he is determined to show his true potential and make it a season-long winning streak.

Lowes also highlighted the performance of his brother Sam Lowes, who is competing at WorldSBK this season. He expressed his faith in Sam’s talent and believes he will win as a newcomer to the category.

Overall, Alex Laws reflected on his WorldSBK career and admitted that despite not being given a chance in MotoGP, he is determined to work hard to achieve his goals and set himself apart from the top riders in the sport.
