Unveiling Ayao Komatsu: Get Acquainted with the New Haas F1 Team Boss

1 years ago By Sports Desk

Unveiling Ayao Komatsu:-
After the departure of Guenther Steiner as Haas team boss, Ayao Komatsu is all set the replace his position starting this season.

The departure news of the Guenther striker was announced this week by the Haas team, with Ayao Komatsu at his spot.

Ayao Komatsu was born in Tokyo, Japan but at the age of 19 he left Japan for the United Kingdom to study Automotive Engineering at Loughborough University. Komatsu later obtained a PhD from Loughborough and has stayed in the UK ever since to work various roles in F1.

Komatsu joined the Haas F1 team in 2016 as their trackside engineer, which he held every year until 2024 when he became the boss.

The 47-year-old began their career in motorsport in 2003 as a tyre engineer for the British American Racing and stuck with the Brackley team for two seasons. In 2006 he moved to Renault to work as a performance engineer, starting on the test team before being promoted to the race team working with drivers such as Nelson Piquet Jr., Romain Grosjean and Vitaly Petrov.

2011 season he was promoted to Petrov’s race engineer, working with him for one year before partnering up with the returning Grosjean for 2012. Grosjean and Komatsu formed a close bond, scoring nine podium finishes and fighting for race wins at the end of 2013. After a disappointing 2014, Komatsu was promoted to chief race engineer at Lotus, helping Grosjean and the Enstone team score a podium at the 2015 Belgian Grand Prix. When Grosjean left for the fledging Haas F1 Team, Komatsu followed him, becoming trackside engineering director for the American outfit in 2016.

With the new Team boss, it remains to be seen whether Ayao Komatsu will improve the Haas team. The biggest task for Komatsu is to make better use of what is at his disposal because Gene Haas will not invest in the team more, so it needs to be more efficient with resources.
