George Russell Confident: Mercedes’ 2024 F1 Car Design Won’t Repeat Last Year’s Rush

10 months ago By Sports Desk

Young and exciting British F1 talent George Russell is really hopeful and sure of his team’s and Mercsdes’ approach to the design of their 2024 W15.

He commented that this year’s car design will not be rushed like last year’s W14. The driver is very unaware of the fact that last year’s mistakes will not be repeated again.

Mercedes was surely very rushed in their approach to designing their last-year car, the W14. They also surprised everyone by carrying the ‘zeropod’ technology of their 2022 car, the W13. The decision to continue with the Zeropod was made suddenly after George Russell’s victory at the Sao Paulo F1 Grand Prix. The team was very confident that its addition to the W14 would make Mercedes gain dominance over Red Bull.

But all this plan and hope faltered at the very start of the season, in the practice test and in the Bahrain GP, the season opener, where both Mercedes cars struggled badly.

The team then had to make significant changes to their design and even abandoned the zeropod and adopted its fierce rival, Red Bull’s downwash sidepod concept.

But Russell is really optimistic about his team’s approach to planning, designing, and manufacturing the W15 Mercedes car for the 2024 F1 season. He also recognises and respects the fact that Red Bull and Max Verstappen have really become almost unstoppable and undisputed greats in the last three years, but Mercedes will still come back and throw a suckerpunch at them.

Mercedes is really a great team, if not the all-time great, and they have shown their greatness time and again in the past years, especially during the 2014–2021 stint, where they grabbed eight consecutive constructors championships as well as seven drivers championship titles with Lewis Hamilton. And all that was possible due to their ingenious engineering and their cars. So, surely, they can really plan well and strike back with thunder this season.
