Stella Commends Norris for Crucial Role in McLaren F1 Car Development Amid Victory Drought

1 years ago By Sports Desk

After a challenging period, McLaren has seen a remarkable turnaround in its Formula 1 performance in 2023, and Lando Norris has played a crucial role in that journey. Team principal Andrea Stella highlighted Norris’ valuable contribution to the car’s development, especially considering the pressure and the driver’s desire to achieve victory. Norris, who won the Italian Grand Prix in 2021, faced a difficult 2022 season as McLaren finished fifth in the constructors’ championship.

The first races of 2023 also presented challenges, but a series of upgrades to the MCL60 have propelled the team back into the competitive scene. Stella recognized the stress Norris felt watching other drivers achieve victory while he was still seeking that feat.

However, he highlighted Norris’ admirable attitude in dealing constructively with this pressure, without transferring the stress to the team. The McLaren boss praised Norris’ dedication amid his quest for victories, highlighting that the driver not only sought solutions to improve his performance, but also contributed constructively to the car’s development. “Lando is at a stage in his career where he feels the pressure of, ‘I want to win a race, I want to be up there with the guys that I know I’m as good as and I see them winning races,’” Stella explained in an exclusive interview .

Stella’s recognition of Norris’ role goes beyond his performance on the track. He highlights Norris’ ability to maintain a constructive attitude even in the face of difficulties, contributing to a positive environment in the team. Furthermore, the team boss praised Oscar Piastri, Norris’ teammate, for his calm and control during his debut season in F1, highlighting that emotional stability is a valuable component in the pursuit of success.

As McLaren positions itself as a strong competitor, the effective collaboration between the team and its drivers, especially the role of Lando Norris, stands out as a key element to continued success in Formula 1.
