Adrian Newey Supports F1’s Plans for Increased Active Aero, Deems It “Appropriate” for the Future

1 years ago By Sports Desk

F1 has long relationship with the Active Aerodynamics system, in short the very popular, DRS ( Drag Reduction  System) installed in the cars of each team, which makes the car go even faster.

This fundamental scientific theory or law, is one of FIA and F1’s most favourite, and the implementation and use of this active Aero systems in the cars are only going to increase day by day, as hinted by Adrian Newey. This increased regulations will come in along with several others that are going to be implemented from 2026.

The FIA and F1 are both working simultaneously to make and implement new rules form the 2026 season, which includes simpler designs for hybrid engines as well.

Although some garbage ideas, which were put on at first , like something like a reverse DRS, are now put down. According to Nikolas Tombazis, F1’s scientific advisor, the importance of using DRS even in the corners are being considered as well.

Now, according to Newey, Red Bull’s chief technical director- “I’m not concerned. That shouldn’t be too awful, as active aerodynamics is meant to make up for the power unit’s lack of output.

It is obviously a sensible idea to try to obtain improved aerodynamic efficiency. Furthermore, why not include active aerodynamics? Considering that it is already present in road cars,

“You notice a lot of automobiles in the trunk area and other places with movable wings. Thus, why not use that in competition? When the wings came off in the 1960s, active aerodynamics had a terrible rap, but we’ve moved past that and it no longer happens at all, the speaker added.

Newey, arguably the best and vastly experiencedtechnical director and assessment officer on the F1 grid, has always been a supporter of this Active Aero technology and considers the F1 to be going in great direction not just for the sake of the Formula 1 championship, but for the greater good of the humankind too.

Newey stated, that active aerodynamics would soon also be the feature of all the Road cars of the future, so it’s a good opportunity for F1 to showcase its importance cause F1 has always been an pioneer in regulating and revolutionizing the automobile industry and history.
