San Marino Grand Prix: Martín Claims Pole Position, Breaking The Misano Record

In a thrilling MotoGP qualifying session at Misano Adriatico, Jorge Martín of the Prima Pramac Racing team emerged as the star of the show, clinching pole position for the highly anticipated San Marino and Rimini Riviera MotoGP. Martín’s remarkable performance not only secured him a prime starting position but also saw him rewrite the history books by breaking the Misano lap record previously held by Marco Bezzecchi.

The Performance

Martín’s prowess on the track was nothing short of spectacular. While he blazed around the 2.6-mile Misano circuit in a staggering one minute and 30.390 seconds, demolishing Bezzecchi’s previous record by nearly half a second. While Martín’s aggressive yet controlled riding demonstrated his determination to close the 50-point gap between himself and championship leader Francesco Bagnaia.

Speaking about his achievement, Martín stated, “I took a lot of risks to make that pole position. I am so proud of my team and of myself to be back in that position.”

Impressive Bagnaia

Francesco Bagnaia, the reigning world champion, delivered a truly remarkable performance of his own. Despite carrying injuries from a harrowing crash at the Catalunya MotoGP just a week earlier, Bagnaia secured an impressive third place on the grid, trailing Martín by a mere 0.436 seconds. His resilience and determination to collect valuable points on home turf garnered him admiration from fans and fellow riders alike.

Bagnaia expressed his joy, saying, “I’m very happy. I wasn’t guaranteed to be like this, but for now, the most important thing is to be here, and to be on the front row is a very good feeling for me.”

While adding to the intrigue, six-time MotoGP champion Marc Marquez will commence the race from the ninth position on the grid, amid persistent rumors of a potential move to Ducati’s Gresini team for the next season. Ducati’s racing CEO, Claudio Domenicali, remained enigmatic about the speculation, expressing his interest and amusement at the reports and emphasizing the reputation of Ducati’s bikes.
