5 F1 Racers With the Most Wins in 2023

1 years ago By Sports Desk

As the exciting ongoing 2023 F1 season slowly nears its end. Let’s discuss the five racers with the most wins in 2023.

And if you may wonder why, there are five racers on the win section, contradicting the fact that 10 out of 12 completed races are won by the ‘mighty’ Max Verstappen.

The F1 community actually judges the points system as a win-lose criteria. So let’s take a look.

The F1 Point System

There is no monetary compensation for winning the Grand Prix. Following the race, the podium drivers receive a trophy (most contracts enable teams to keep the original trophy and manufacture a duplicate for their driver(s) at their exclusive discretion) and champagne, as well as championship points for the top ten drivers.

The following is the point system:

1st. 25 points

2nd. 18pts

3rd. 15pts

4th. 12pts

5th. 10pts

6th. 8pts

7th. 6pts

8th. 4pts

9th. 2pts

10th.1pt

Over the course of the season, each driver and team accumulate points. The drivers’ and constructors’ championships are won by the driver and team with the most points at the end of the season.

There is no direct cash reward for winning the Grand Prix. After the race, the drivers on the podium receive a trophy (most contracts allow teams to keep the original trophy and make a replica for their driver(s) at their sole discretion) and champagne, as well as championship points for the top 10 drivers.

For the drivers themselves, race wins will usually incur a salary bonus (this is why teammates often get paid different amounts of money) and make the driver who won more popular and worth more in other races.

The Top 5 Drivers Based on Their Win

1. Max ‘The Max’ Verstappen

Leading the championship table both with Grand Prix wins and points accumulated is none other than the new great Max. The reigning champion and two-time consecutive title champion has already won 10 of the 12 completed Grand Prix of the 2023 calendar.

His ten wins include:

Bahrain GP

Australian GP

Miami GP

Monaco GP

Spanish GP

Canadian

Austrian GP

UK GP

Hungarian GP

Belgian GP

Along with these victories, he finished second in the remaining two Grand Prix (Abu Dhabi and Azerbaijan). So, with the overall victories, 2nd place finishes, and multiple sprint wins, he currently leads and evidently will win the F1 championships with a total of 314 points, inching closer to his third consecutive championship win.

2. Sergio ‘Checo’ Perez

On second place in the list is Max’s Red Bull teammate and partner in crime, Checo. This season’s only other driver to claim a victory other than Verstappen sits at number 2 on the championship table. After securing two victories at the Abu Dhabi and Azerbaijan GPs and picking up points in all the races, Sergio had gained a total of 189 points. Although there is a large difference in his and Max’s points. Most of Max’s victories had come with his assists, as he protected Max from other drivers. By even sacrificing his own accomplishments for the team.

3. Fernando Alonso

The two-time champion, 42-year-old Spanish veteran Alonso, had driven surprisingly well this season.

Driving for Aston Martin, he has consistently finished inside the top 10 positions of each race.

This enabled him to accumulate a total of 149 points. He also holds the third position in the Driver’s Championship for gaining these points.

4. Lewis ‘The Great’ Hamilton

The now-struggling seven-time champion has somehow managed to stay in the top 5 on the championship table. The 38-year-old, now even struggling with the Mercedes car, has picked up valuable points for himself and the team by always finishing in the top 10 of each race. He has gained no victories but has accumulated 148 points.

5. Charles Leclerc

In fifth position is the Ferrari driver from Monaco, with multiple top-10 finishes in 10 GPs. He had to retire his car in the last two races. So, now he stands in the 5th position in the Driver’s Championship with 99 points.
